Wells

The City of Wells is the smallest city in England with around 12,000 residents. Dating to medieval times, Wells contains many historical buildings including the 13th century Cathedral, Vicar’s Close, The Bishop’s Palace and St. Cuthberts Church.

A visit to Wells on either a Wednesday or a Saturday will find the market square packed with traders with many local arts and crafts as well as organic and locally sourced produce.

The Bishops Palace is just beyond the Market square and features a beautiful moat as well as 14 acres of lavish grounds and an exceptional cafe. You can also visit the wells from which the city takes its name.

After a morning of exploration you can browse the many shops along the high street and if charity shops are your thing you have a lot of options!

Throughout the city you will find a Tesco, a Waitrose and several smaller convenience stores. You are well served for eating out with some very fine restaurants dotted throughout the city streets.
